Revolutionizing the Education Sector with Compassionate Technology

Updated: Apr 10, 2022

To feel compassionate towards someone is to willingly participate in their ordeal. Compassion is the precursor of empathy as an individual feels it before he completely understands the dilemma of another person. Empathy is also one of our triad values, as we believe that innovation backed by an understanding of the problems faced by the education sector today, can lead us to build technology that can cater to every section of society.

In general terms, compassionate technology is the use of any knowledge-based product or service to solve the existing social problems and bridge the gap between people from different walks of life. Further, the incorporation of compassionate technology in education can bring about a positive change in the way remote examinations and assessments are carried out.

Conducting research is yet another way through which the difficulties faced by the learners, educators, and management can be ascertained. Recently, we conducted research to analyze the state of education in today’s remote world. Our report “State of Digitization in Education and Examinations- India” entails the information collected across 124 educational institutes in India. It represents the key decision-makers such as college registrars, deans, heads of departments, faculty members, and students. We concluded that 91% of institutions use video conferencing tools for both online classes and digital examinations through this research. Some drawbacks of such a system are:

  • Supervising each participant during exams is not only redundant but also time-consuming.

  • Educators invigilate for hours, but still, the purpose of making assessments secure and efficient is not served.

  • Learner satisfaction also drops drastically when the management and staff members fail to come out with personalized learning outcomes, pertaining to their wholesome growth and development.

We understand this dilemma and aim to solve challenges with our cutting-edge AI technology. Our platform Promexa uses Artificial Intelligence and biometrics to assist humans in making better decisions about their exams and safeguards the integrity of their education. The secure and automated proctoring solutions simplify the process and enable the teachers to utilize their time in more productive activities.

With educational institutions being shut down, the pandemic gravely impacted the learners as well. As a result of the eventual technological shift, learners started relying heavily on laptops, PCs, and strong internet connections to attend classes and give exams. People who belonged to remote areas faced connectivity and power supply issues.

Many of them were not able to adjust to this sudden transformation due to financial constraints. As per an article by The Times Of IndiaThe digital divide between rural and urban households is stark with just 4% of the rural population having access to computers.” Even students from urban and metropolitan faced difficulties while attempting exams.

At Cerebranium, we believe that a learner shouldn’t be left behind due to such external factors. Therefore we aim to bridge this gap with Promexa. Some of its features are:

  • It is a mobile-run application, which is fully independent of any network requirement during the conduction of exams and assessments.

  • Uses 50% lower bandwidth than other online proctoring solutions.

  • It ensures that students can give exams and assessments hassle-free and upload them whenever they have an active internet connection.

  • Mitigates the risk of malpractices during examinations with Biometric Identity Management.

  • AI-driven insights from the Orionis Engine for enhanced exam and assessment integrity.

Promexa for Institutions lets the institutes conduct sizable examinations, saving both their time and money. It simplifies exam management in multiple ways:

  • It enables the examiner to schedule assessments quickly and keep a track of a learner's performance through the statistics provided in the exam dashboard.

  • The examiner can easily view responses and exam videos through the exam activity logs.

  • Exam videos are furnished with a cheating prediction score and marked with time-stamps, which indicate the time when the student might have resorted to malpractice.

  • Ease of administration with role-based access and subject-wise question bank management.

  • Secure conduction of exams with GDPR compliant technology, and multi-factor authentication.

These aspects increase job satisfaction among the staff members as it automates tedious and monotonous tasks while keeping them secure. With the merging of Compassionate Technology and education, institutions can promote inclusivity, dynamism, and increased productivity among their employees and students. Eventually, complex examination operations can be simplified, through which the academic community can be empowered to initiate smooth operations benefiting everyone around them.
